Our Sundays

Worship at Bishop Oxford

Worship is the heart of our life together. It is where we bring our joys and sorrows, listen for God's word, and gain strength to serve our rural communities.

Our services blend traditional United Church liturgy—familiar hymns, choral music, and thoughtful preaching—with contemporary expressions of faith. We believe worship should be accessible and deeply meaningful, whether you've attended church your whole life or are walking through our doors for the first time.

A deeply welcoming space: Dress is casual and comfortable. Children are an integral part of our community and are welcome to be themselves during the service. Our communion table is completely open; you do not need to be a member of this church or any church to participate.

Choir and seasonal worship

Music Ministry

Music is a vital expression of our faith. Our dedicated choir and talented local organists/pianists lead us in song every week. We draw from the rich United Church hymnody ("Voices United" and "More Voices"), mixing grand historic hymns with lively contemporary folk-style music that gets toes tapping. We welcome all who love to sing to join our choir!

Seasonal Celebrations

Our worship follows the Christian year, bringing distinct flavor and focus to our gatherings:

  • Advent & Christmas: Candlelight, carols, and a joyous Christmas Eve combined service.
  • Lent & Easter: Reflective midweek prayer, Holy Week walks, and a triumphant Easter morning.
  • Anniversary Sundays: Celebrating the rich ~180-year history of our congregations.
  • Harvest Thanksgiving: A distinctly rural celebration of God's provision in our farming communities.
